June was Alzheimer's & Brain Health Awareness Month. A time to promote early detection, support brain health research, and highlight the importance of compassionate care for people with cognitive conditions. Members facing Alzheimer’s, dementia, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and other neurological conditions deserve specialized, compassionate care so they can live safely and with dignity. We’re highlighting Modivcare’s initiatives that support members with Alzheimer’s and other cognitive conditions. Year-round, we strive to offer members the care they deserve.
Modivcare’s Commitment to High-Quality Care
In Connecticut, several Personal Care Services (PCS) teammates completed a 13-hour Alzheimer’s and dementia care course through the Alzheimer’s Association. Those certified as caregiver trainers have incorporated the course into our statewide onboarding for PCS caregivers. This evidence-based training reinforces Modivcare’s current caregiver education by emphasizing person-centered techniques, communication strategies, and meaningful engagement with members living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. It enhances caregiver readiness and supports stronger relationships with the members we serve. By deepening caregiver knowledge, we help improve outcomes, strengthen relationships between caregivers and members, and support a higher quality of life for people living with cognitive conditions.
The number of people living with dementia is expected to double by 2060. Caregivers need the necessary skills and tools to meet this growing need. For caregivers, this is an opportunity to upskill. Training equips them to care for more members and gives them the tools to succeed in their roles. The additional training can help caregivers be more confident, communicate more effectively, and experience greater job satisfaction. This benefits both the member and the caregiver.
Specialized Care for Residential Facilities
In New York, Modivcare supports members enrolled in the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Nursing Home Transition and Diversion (NHTD) Medicaid Waiver programs. These programs help eligible individuals live in the community rather than in institutional settings. We train and deploy caregivers who receive specialized instruction to support individuals with cognitive impairments, including those caused by TBI and other neurological conditions. Modivcare provides more than 3,500 trained caregivers across both the TBI and NHTD programs. Many of these caregiver's support members in settings like Amber Haven and Brendan House, two residential homes operated by New Beginnings Community Center. In these environments, caregivers deliver around-the-clock assistance, including help with daily living tasks and accompaniment to activities like grocery shopping, movie outings, and community events. Modivcare’s New York caregivers go through specialized training, allowing them to best serve the residents at Amber Haven and Brendan House. Our long-standing relationship with New Beginnings and member families ensures that care is personalized and aligned with each person’s goals.
At Modivcare, we remain focused on delivering compassionate, specialized care that supports members with neurological conditions and helps them stay connected, independent, and well-supported in their homes and communities. Every member deserves access to the right care, at the right time, from caregivers who understand their needs. By helping caregivers recognize, respond to, and adapt to each member’s condition, we create stronger relationships and better outcomes. This remains a priority for us not just during Alzheimer's & Brain Health Awareness Month, but throughout the year.
