Daniel E. Greenleaf
Executive powerhouse and CEO of Modivcare, Dan Greenleaf makes a difference with his innovation of our modern healthcare system. A NASDAQ company, Modivcare drives long-term, positive health outcomes for 32 million Americans by addressing the social determinants of health. Since December of 2019, Dan successfully positioned Modivcare as the leading technology-enabled provider against healthcare inequities in underserved patient populations. This includes access to non-emergency medical transportation, personal care, remote patient monitoring, and meal services.
As an economics major at Denison University, Dan also thrived outside of the classroom. He earned all-conference tight end and team captain recognitions for the Denison football team, the NCAC conference champions. Dan now serves as a member of the Varsity D-Association. In addition, Dan joined as a brother of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, which elected him President his junior year. The Beta brotherhood continues today with annual gatherings serving to foster lifelong friendships.
After college, Dan served in the Air Force as a navigator and captain during the Gulf War. His work ethic and careful leadership strategy continue to reflect the influence of his navigation training today. He operates with a “plan the flight, then fly the plan” mentality. After leaving the military, Dan showed his strong sense of direction by earning an M.B.A. (summa cum laude) in Health Administration from the University of Miami in 1997. His flight has stayed on course ever since.
A five-time CEO for various privately held and public healthcare providers, Dan garners recognition for his exemplary talents in turning around well-positioned, but underperforming companies, empowering them to make a greater impact on patients. In 2008, he took over a home infusion company, Coram Healthcare, and increased its valuation from $350 million to $2.1 billion. This achievement attracted CVS, which subsequently acquired Coram. Serving as Chairman and CEO, Dan joined Home Solutions in 2013, a similar company specializing in home infusion services and home care management. His leadership changed the trajectory of the struggling company, culminating in the sale of Home Solutions in 2016 to a larger complementary home care company, BioScrip Infusion Services. After engineering this transaction, Dan became President and CEO and joined BioScrip’s board. Under his direction, BioScrip merged with Option Care in 2019. Later that year, Dan assumed the roles of President, CEO, and board member at Modivcare, a company he felt needed to be repositioned in the marketplace. Since Dan’s arrival, Modivcare has strategically shifted its branding, grown its workforce from 4 thousand to 25 thousand employees, and added $1.3 billion in acquisitions. The company today generates $2.3 billion in revenue. To date, Dan sits on multiple boards that span across the healthcare industry, including Matrix Medical Network, Alliance Homecare, University of Miami Health Management & Policy Department/Center Advisory Board, and Gryphon’s Executive Advisory Board.
Dan remains a passionate and continual supporter of Denison, serving on the Board of Advisors and a regular donor to the Annual Fund. Moreover, Dan has established an endowment scholarship fund as a memorial to his parents, Lieutenant General Abbott and Jean Greenleaf, in tribute to their commitment to education and love of learning. In 2019, he spoke to students at the Knowlton Center for Career Exploration and has supported Denison students by employing multiple interns. Dan is a global member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) since 2004. He is also an avid skier who appreciates the outdoor lifestyle in Colorado, which he calls “the best place in the country to live.” Dan has two children, Dana, a graduate of Kenyon College now living in Brooklyn, NY, and Hannah, a graduate of New York University (NYU) currently residing in Santa Monica, CA.
